Philosophy

Iona, blog author

When I started this blog I was crazy about natural beauty products and sold them alongside my massage and beauty business. Life's a learning curve and over time I've come to think that balance is the key. I've found that being too obsessed with natural/organic/sugar-free/fun-free living can end up being a source of stress - too much paraben dodging can be hard work for a girl, especially when you're on the go and multi-tasking like no-one's business. So this blog is about beauty of all kinds - internal, external...the practical and spiritual elements. I'll be embracing inner beauty via a few omms, down dogs and a bit of algae chomping here and there. However, this blog is also about all kinds of irrelevant things and consumerism, darn it, because I'm only human and we're living in a material world. If you root through my beauty bag you'll find handmade organic skincare products nestling alongside YSL and Chanel cosmetics. I strive to find skincare products which are truly natural (and effective), but sometimes I'll turn a blind eye to a product which is pretending to be perfectly natural, and sometimes I'll fall for the Armani face shimmer just because it does the job.

I might find myself sourcing food ethically, trailing through ingredients lists, signing Amnesty petitions...and then the next minute buying a beautiful top in a smart shop, having no idea who made it and not wanting to ask questions which will inevitably lead to some awkward decision making. I still put bleach in my hair, my friends tease me over my food intolerances du jour and sometimes I turn off the news because it's just too sad. We simply have to try our best to be kind to ourselves and each other and fight for the causes we believe in. We're all learning and evolving every day. This ain't no hemp-wearing, lentil-soaking, sprout-growing fest...that is, unless my yogi crush of the moment does all of the above.

Come join me as I share my tips on health, beauty, food, life laundry, holistic approaches and more besides.
